Hype Machine aggregates posts from hundreds of music sites to spotlight emerging acts. The charts are influential, especially for indie and electronic music. Chromeo have called Hype Machine “our Billboard.” Fred Wilson said it's the best thing to happen to music since the Rolling Stones.
As Hype Machine's founding art director, I developed the brand identity, establishing typography, color palette, and visual style across all touchpoints.
Hype Machine's logo began in 2007 as a t-shirt graphic.

The design visualized the idea of talking about music you love. People really liked it! I reworked my illustration into a logo, developing a palette around the green.
As our layout evolved, I continued to simplify the logo. The speech bubble icon is recognizable with or without the wordmark, and I use them interchangeably.
I developed a set of illustrations in the style of the logo phonograph, which I can reuse and recontextualize for different purposes while maintaining a consistent identity.
